An Angel Went Home...

I found out today that lady I have had a relationship with almost everyday for 2 yrs... has passed away.

I stop at a fast food place every morning for a sausage & biscuit, and this woman was an angel. I have had many early morning conversations with her, chit chat, if you will, to past the time between paying and getting my sausage & biscuit.

We would talk about the weather, kids, and life in general.
She was always a sweetheart to me...

Every time and everyday she would tell me, " you have a great day." She was special...

She always had a smile and a kind word, and would always give me a few minutes of her time.

The last day I saw her was Friday before I left for Memphis, I told her why I was going and I would see her when I got back.

She died the Sunday I left...
I never got to tell her how we did.

I will miss her smile...
I will miss our small talk..
And I will miss her telling me, "you have a great day."

What's up B.D.?

Not much besides yard work.

I think I am close to catching up on my homework.
I don't ever want to get this far behind again.

It's like looking at an empty can of beer...
(work with me here)

It never seems to end...

When I win the lottery, I'll hire someone to do all the work, and my can will always be full... The homestead will look fab, and I'll be 3 sheets in the wind all the time, lucky me...

Weekend Report

You know the old saying, "I need a vacation from my vacation." This is true...

It has taken me a week to get caught up from being gone all last week.

I think I may R&R today and finish up tomorrow.

Mr. & Mrs. Rabbit are back this year and they have decided to munch on "ALL" of the flowers I had planted before I left. They have made themselves at home and procured a meal off everything. It may be time for some Rabbit Stew...

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures I have posted and I will post some more of "Memphis in May" from time to time in the near future. That was a great experience for me to learn about the BBQ cook off competition and I was fortunate enough to be with a great group of guys.

I hope you have a great and safe Memorial Day Weekend.

Honor those that gave all...
Honor those that still serve...
Honor those we never knew...
Honor the loved ones lost...

We know, we honor, and we remember...

Can you guess what the smoker is made out of ?
An old commercial fridge.

That's right, it was taken apart, old insulation removed, refitted with rock wool insulation, a few modifications, a fire box and presto, one fine smoker.

Back Home...

I'm back home and it is great to be back.
I missed my family so much you'll never know. And I missed you, my readers as well.

First off...

Let me say thanks to Carey & Dave for letting me become a part of the team "Peg Leg Porkers."

And let me say thanks to Steve for taking me under his wing and teaching me about fire management and temperatures. And thanks to John who became an instant friend when we first met.

It has been a long week, but for the experience to compete in the BBQ cook off and meet new people and make new friends...it was well worth it.

As a team, we came in 27th over all, out of 65 to 68 teams that turned in shoulders... Not bad.

One of our team members placed 3rd in the "People's Choice Award." Evan Lobel of Lobel's butcher shop in New York won that prize, so a big congratulations goes out to him for that award.

I will tell you I have a healthy respect for these guys, this was very, very hard work, with many long hours put into this effort.

Was it worth my time? You're damn skippy it was... Thanks Carey, Dave, Steve, and John.

I will be back next year with you guys, and we will kick some BUTT...

Oh...by the way, the 'Q was awsome.

I'll post some pictures soon.

Update on 'Memphis in May'

This is Mrs. B.D. reporting. B.D. called and said that everything is going good in Memphis. They've got everything in place for this weekend and they have already started cooking some grub. He said they've got a couple of Boston butts smokin' right now. (I sure hope he remembers to bring home some of that good food for me!) He said that it's been a little chilly at night down there by the river.

Well, since I'm not nearly as good with the words as B.D. is, I'll just sign off and hopefully try to update some more tomorrow or Friday.

Weekend Report

Whoa, what is up with this weather?

For the past 2 days the wind would bounce you around like a punching bag, more rain, grass growing by leaps & bounds, as soon as I cut it, boom rain, boom grows 2 inches...

I have to use the push mower to cut it as to not track up the yard with the riding mower, but it sure is green...

This will be my last post for awhile.

I am going to be gone for the next 8 days and we don't have a lap top that I can take with me... but fear not, Julie will step in and take care of "The Grill" for me, I will call her and give updates on the events & happenings and she will post it here for you. I will try to take lots of pictures and share them with you when I return home.

Julie will also be going to a bowling tournament before I get back, so good luck to all of the ladies, and good luck to us at the 'Q' competition.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and if you're not a mom, we still love you anyway.

I'll see you here when I get back.

Enjoy your day!!!

Where have you been B.D.?

I have been so busy this week, I have not had time to sit down and type for "The Grill." So forgive me on my slacking to you my readers that check me out everyday. The clock is ticking and I have a million things to do before the road trip to Memphis in May.

I promise I will be back tomorrow for the Weekend Report.

Until then...

It's a go...

Ok...I think I have my colors right for "i think of you as..." it was a black template, but Vicky said it was too dark and hard to read. So I changed colors and tweaked it just a tad.

I may still play with it some more from time to time before I'm happy with it.

It's still a work in progress...

Weekend Report

I redeemed myself to Julie yesterday by grillin' her some lip smacking Leg Quarters. (I am out of the doghouse for now...)

I will admit that they were hotter than the normal batch of wings, but they were sooooo good...

I need to do some work outside, but it's been raining this morning so I guess that is on hold for awhile. 'What's in your driveway' 75% said they had more than one of the above, 25% said truck.

New surveys up.

To my "girls" I'll see you tonight, B.D. will be 'in the house' Woo-Hoo!

Enjoy your day!!!

Grilled "Hot Wings"

I did some grilled "Hot Wings" tonight.
These turned out to be Thermo Nuclear as I had a tad bit too much Habanero Hot Sauce in the mix.

Note to self: I must follow my own recipe next time.
Vicky & Tracy would love these, Julie on the other hand was not pleased with me. My Bad...

Here are some pictures.

My Other Blog

I put a link to my other blog "I Think Of You As..." under my links as My Other Blog. I'm still working on that one, so just bear with me, but do check it out when you visit "The Grill."

I will post to it more often of my opinions as time goes on...

Rain, Rain, Rain and then some more...

We got a nice little shower Sunday and today, if you keep up with me, then you know about this same time last year I made the comment, "Save some for this Summer, there Big Guy."

All this rain we get early...means it will be dry this summer. My water bill will be astronomical later this summer as I try to keep the grass and the plants alive to make it through the well known Tennessee crazy summer season.

Spring is great...Summer sucks.

And it's knocking on the door as we speak...

I saw an article about "Memphis in May" where 90,000 people were there last year... 90,000 people???

What have I signed up for and what have I gotten myself into???
