Pizza, Wings & Onion Rings...

I know I haven't posted any cooking photos lately for your drooling pleasure.

Sorry...It's because of:

Working 12 hour shifts
Rain
Ball games
Making up rained out ball games
Yard work
Making up rained out yard work
Making plans
Rescheduling my plans because I had made plans and Fate sticks out the old foot and trips me up
And a list of other things that get in my way when I make plans

What does all this mean?

I haven't cooked much since Labor Day. On the few occasions I have cooked it's been the old standby...chicken. I've just about quit asking Julie what she would like when I say, "Honey, I'm firing up the grill tonight. What would you like?"

Chicken...

So being the good husband that I am, I cook chicken.

I can cook chicken in my sleep I've cooked it so much. Only takes about a hour or four beers, which ever comes first.

So...

I really wanted to cook a brisket that weekend on the new WSM.

But no...

Fate, stuck that big old gigantic ugly foot out there and face first I went...

Ring-ring...

Hello?

"Honey I'm at the store and I picked up some chicken for tomorrow."

Thanks honey.

Am I a good husband or what?

This & That...

I know...I know. There is no Weekend Report.

It rained damn near all day Saturday, so no ball game or nothing else for that matter. Sunday, I had to jump on the grass wet or not. (and it was wet)

Spent half the day on that little chore...needless to say, no brisket.

Did fire up the grill for some...

Here Piggy...

Oh yeah babe...

My girls are always thinking about little ol' Big Daddy.

My girl Marcia, one of the owners of Tusculum Lanes found this and gave it to me and now I am the proud owner of the Piggy jar.

And this little piggy didn't come empty handed neither. It had a belly full of home made Chocolate Chip Cookies. My girls love me...

They know I love barbecue, beer, piggy and chocolate.

Thank you darlin' that made my day.

Simply Thursday...

Well...

Robyn has a game tonight so I'm off to the ballpark for that. May try to cut grass tomorrow afternoon if it's not raining.

Robyn has a make up game Saturday and we should be caught up on rained out games...hopefully.

I may try and fire up R2D2 this weekend if the weather will act right and cook some brisket.

We'll see...

Most of the time my plans don't work out but I'll give it a shot.

Weekend Report...

Got enough of a break from the rain yesterday to fire up the motorized billy goat and cut the grass.

And it's a dang good thing I did because that afternoon around 5 o'clock, here comes Sister Rain crying her eyes out again.

I've lived here long enough to know, if it has rained all week and your grass is ankle deep and it quits raining for a period of time...you'd best jump on that billy goat and get it done, because chances are, there's some more rain coming...

Most folks will say "I'll wait till it dries out." I know...I used to be one.

But the older you get the smarter you get. Go ahead and wait for it to dry out...I'll drink one for you as you cuss and swear you'll never do that again...until the next rain...

Grass growing season is about over with down here. It will soon be time for the outdoor carpet to take a nap and rest up for next Spring.

That's the sad part...Fall will soon be here.

We have had enough rain this year and the colors of the trees should be beautiful and full this fall, but everybody knows what comes next.

Winter...

I know...I know...

Fall ain't even got here yet and I'm already thinking about winter and that cold wind and cold rain and snow and not being a Polar Bear and cussing about having to grill in sub-zero weather saying "that's why God made man smart enough to invent chili" and wishing it was Spring...

It's like going to the Doctor, you know you're going to get a shot.

I know it's fixing to get cold. And readers that know me, know I don't hate too many things, but these two, top the list.

Shot
Cold

The only way these two will redeem themselves is to combine and become...Cold Shot.

I'm down with that...

This & That...

Today is my sister-in-law Lynn's B-Day.

She celebrates her...

(Due to the recent law passed: #36-24-36 of the Law of Record that Man shall not say or speak of these...we are not allowed to divulge any number for the establishment of age, boob size, shoe size, brain size, butt size, hip size, lip size, hottie number or phone number)

...Birthday.

Happy B-Day Sister!!!
We love ya'

On another note:

Sister Rain...has had PMS (Pretty Massive Showers) all week and it looks like she ain't done yet. Rain coats and rubber duckies boys, rain coats and rubber duckies...

I need a vacation.

Simply Thursday...

Sorry about no post since the Weekend Report...

I've been working 12 hour shifts this week. By the time I get home, have a few cold libations to unwind, it's time to hit the sack.

Not much going on...besides the constant rain that has camped out over Tennessee this whole week.

I'll get back up to speed in a day or two and we'll sit down and chew the fat...

Weekend Report...

Got my exercise workout in yesterday...

Robyn, had a ball game Saturday morning and after that was over and done, I fired up the motorized billy goat and cut the grass. Wasn't hot, but it was humid.

When it's like that, I can look like I just climbed out of the washing machine with my clothes on. Soaking wet from head to toe...

Today, I need to work on the landscaping. I'm going to do a little bit every weekend until I get it done. All that rain we had, things like grass, bushes, shrubs and trees just went BOOM time to grow, grow, grow...

Also made my wife happy...

Yep...grilled chicken.

Surprise, surprise...

Remember...

Never forget those who died...
Never forget those who tried...

Never forget those who died...
Never forget those who cried...

Never forget those left behind...
Never forget those that questioned why...

Never forget those that died...
This pain and suffering we can not hide...

Wordless Wednesday...

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change...at such a moment...there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not ready.

The challenge will not wait...

Life does not look back...a week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”-- Paulo Coelho

Labor Day...

You know, Labor Day used to be sponsored by the companies for the employees and their families. Company picnics, games, and fun for the kids.

The bosses would man the grills for the steaks, hot dogs and hamburgers and their wives would set out the fried chicken and all the sides as some of the wives would help out setting up the tables and preparing the drinks for the kids.

These (of course) were the olden days of years past. (we were the kids)

How times have changed...

Our work place of today no longer feels like a second home. It's a job, you are a number (an underpaid overworked number) you are a body, a statistic, a blab, a blob.

Your life, your family, your goals, your dreams, mean nothing. It has become Kings rule again, peons...well it's just too bad for you.

We still get the day off (sometimes). Thank you my King for that one luxury.

The picnic will still be set up, the grills will still be grilling, the sound of laughter and friendship will still fill the air.

The only thing that will be missing is...
...you boss.

Sorry about your luck...

Have a wonderful Labor Day!!!

Weekend Report...

Aroma therapy works wonders for the mind and soul...of course a few beers don't hurt none neither.

Fired up Big Momma and cooked some ribs, wings, short ribs, chicken thighs, and a pan of beans. The family came over for a little aroma therapy as well...

Dale
Mish
Dave
Blondie
Leah
Granny

The in-laws also brought someone that we have not seen in awhile...

Cousin Elly May...

Now, cousin Elly is a successful woman in the world of business. She lives in another state, but always kept in touch by phone. The years have been kind to Elly.

We heard she was spitting out kids faster than you can spit out a watermelon seed. She missed the family and decided that she would drop by for a surprise visit.

She ain't changed one bit...

This & That...

Three glorious days off...Woo Hoo!!!

I'm thinking about firing up the pit and putting some smoke in the air. R2D2 and C3PO are still in standby mode. I had some different access doors made so I'm going to play with them just a tad for a better fit and I want to change out thermometers on the lids. Some fine tuning here and there and they will be ready to go.

I'll try to get a few things done around the house but mainly I just need to empty out my brain and relax. It's getting crowded in there and it's getting hard for me to think straight...

For me to not be able to ponder and reflect and rationalize and prioritize and analyze things in my mind because of all the noise in there is a bad thing.

If it were a hangover I could deal with that...hangovers go away. But alas, that is not the problem.

Stupid people never go away...

But...I have three days to clear my mind, reclaim my lost marbles, relax and ponder things.

What is the first step to recovery in this process?

Time to put a little smoke in the air. Or as a Doctor would say, time for a little aroma therapy.

Oh yeah babe...

Simply Tuesday...

It is a sad day in our household because Julie's Grandmother has passed away.

She was Julie's fathers mother that lived to the ripe young age of her 90's. She was totally old school. She was a God fearing woman of great resolve and values.

She lived and preached the word of the Lord...

I loved her and I had great respect for her. She reminded me of my Grandmother. Very old school and big of heart, wisdom and grace.

She was solid as a rock, and a woman of true heart and value. It is sad that the world is losing these fine folks of grace and wisdom that have lived through the bad times and the good.

Rest with the Angels my darling...go find your son...and live in eternal peace...

We'll miss you...
