This & That...

Well... I'm not doing anything tonight, but my girl Tracy called and she has got it going on.

She told me... she has a roast going on in the crock pot, some black eyed pea action going on with some mashed potatoes and rolls.

You go babe...

I myself... have kind of backed off cooking, work is killing me right now and I just don't feel like cooking. No...you're right, this is not like me, I love to cook, but...

Right now, things at work are not good and this is affecting my home life and my attitude...and no...this is not good.

Things will change soon...

I will make that happen or it will kill me.

And that won't happen, this will not rule me...nothing will. I over come any speed bump put it front of me, I always have and always will...

You can take that statement to the bank.

Weekend Report (part II)

There you go...

Weekend Report...

Well, Mr. Sunshine came out for awhile yesterday, so I got the grass (what's left of it) cut. Hopefully, this will be the last time this year for that job.

Also fired up the Weber for some Big Daddy rubbed grilled chicken leg quarters with fried yellow squash and green beans...yummy.

Tonight, will be grilled rib eyes and rib tips with baked potatoes.

Oh yeah babe...
And yes, I will take pictures.

Enjoy your day!!!

This & That (part II)

Some folks asked what rib tips were, this is the proper name for riblets. Riblets are like beef short ribs, small pieces of meat (pork) on the bone from the cut above the tenderloin pork chop, maybe an inch in length of meat and bone, not a full cut rack of ribs.

They make great appetizers.

Hope this clears everything up...

B.D.

This & That...

Most people hate the taste of beer - to begin with. It is, however, a prejudice that many people have been able to overcome.

WINSTON CHURCHILL

The Weekend Report will be posted Sunday.

If Mr. Sunshine will come out and play today, I have a lot of work to do, if not, it will have to wait until he does. The grills will also be fired up this weekend with chicken & steaks & rib tips.

I was talking to the butcher at a store yesterday about rib tips (they only had one package) and he told me that they most of the time just throw them away. Nobody wants them. (Enter Big daddy to the rescue...)

Hang on there Jethro... I'll take them, don't 86 'em, they make good grilled appetizers. Ain't nothing like grilled Hot wings & rib tips. Just save them and call me. (I'll freeze them)

Nobody wants them...what in the hell is wrong with these people...

Oh, I forgot... it was the blue blood side of town, no wonder they just toss them.

Oh well, sorry about your luck...they're mine now.

Bah,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha...

Enjoy your day!!!

Simply Thursday...

Man alive, it has rained for the past three days non-stop. Good rain, but a little late in the game. The yard will recover next year (I hope) but I will have to redo some of the landscaping next year because it "fall down go boom..."

Anyway, Mr. Sunshine is peeking out from behind the clouds today and it has gotten a lot cooler in the last few days. If you have been a reader of this blog for some time, you know how I feel about that...

If not, let me explain it to you in the short answer, I am not a Polar bear, I hate cold weather with a passion. There...I said it, there ain't too many things in this world I hate...

Warm beer is number one, cold weather is number two...and my hate list is not that long, but those two take top priority and will never get shuffled around in the mix.

What are some of the other things you hate B.D.?

People that ask me stupid questions...

Oh, sorry...

Now, there are no stupid questions when it comes to cooking, everything else is... let's just say, questionable...But, that's just me...

Anyway, sorry I didn't post Wordless yesterday, I had a errand to run after work and then had to get ready for bowling.

It may be getting close to time for pulling out the ole Chili Pot and fixing up a batch (Vicky & Steve)

Woo-Hoo!!!

Enjoy your day!!!

This & That...

My girls didn't do that great this weekend bowling, but they enjoyed themselves and drank a few brews and didn't feel any pain afterward. (you go girls)

But, I have found out one of my girls has an obsession, and it's not with bowling...it's with my voice.

She is deeply in love with my whiskey & cigarette voice. A deep southern voice.

A voice...you would never forget if you heard it. A voice that is real, never fake, never unreal, just my voice, deep, southern, and honest...

All of my girls love my voice and they love me...for me, the way I am, for who I am and for the way I treat Julie.

I'm honored that this is the case and you love my voice, but when you love my heart as some of my girls do, then you're a true B.D.'s girl.

And I can count those girls on one hand...

Weekend Report...

Not much going on this weekend. I had to work yesterday, Julie and some of my girls have gone to Huntsville to bowl. Robyn, is with Mishy and Granny, so it's just me and the Black bear.

I missed Tennessee getting creamed by Alabama yesterday. I know some of our friends are doing their happy dance because of that fact. That's OK...

I'm fixing a roast for tonight, since I haven't done one in a while, so I'm giving the grills a rest for a day or two.

Besides that...not much else going on, just peace and quiet.

Enjoy your day!!!

Simply Thursday...

We finally got some much, much needed rain last night. Next spring, I will have to replace some shrubs and maybe a few trees. That late spring freeze and then extreme heat and drought took a toll on some things around here. The grass looks terrible, all that hard work the last two years down the tubes in one season.

As Charlie Brown would say "Rats..." But, we'll get through it.

Someone else (or something else) also had a B-day Oct. 16th.

Pat Martin's Joint has been open for one year selling Bar-B-Que.

A hardy congrats goes out to Pat and his lovely wife Martha for all the crap they have gone through to keep this place running and striving to feed folks some of the best barbecue around. Way to go Hog head...not bad for a white boy.

If you haven't done it already, read Pat Martin's Blog (link on the right). He tells all about the crap he has gone through to start his dream and his life up to this point.

Pat, is just like me, we can BS all day long, but we don't take any BS off anybody, we work hard, we play hard, and it's all about the Q. The only difference between Pat and myself (besides age and good looks on my part) is Pat is just a tad bit more outspoken than I am. Which, is a good thing on his part, he tells it like it is.

Again, 'Congrats Hog head' on the one year anniversary.

Well... Got to go to work.

Enjoy your day!!!

Happy B-Day Bigdaddy...

Yes...today is my birthday, I have reached a milestone and a number...50

I will say, I never thought I would make it this far. But...I have so I look forward to a few more.

On another note...The rub is fixing to go rocket, we (myself and Jeff) have come upon a group of guys that will sell this to the moon and back. And it is all by word of mouth. These guys will do me justice in no time flat. They all love to cook and spread the word very quickly.

Our business plan is starting to work and our target group is coming together very nicely. The rub has started selling itself. And word of mouth from these guys will be off the charts.

Oh yeah babe...

Enjoy your day!!!

I did.

Weekend Report (part II)

Weekend Report (part III)

Weekend Report...

There are a lot of folks just waiting for this post to show up.

Well, here it is.

I got a surprise pulled on me last night and it was a nice one. But before I get ahead of myself, this is the story...

Tuesday, I will hit a milestone and a number, I will be 50 years old. I've come a long way during that time and I look forward to a few more, but this one turned out to be special.

Under the pretext of a family get together, low and behold, a surprise B-Day party. I knew something was going on when my lovely wife grabbed the camera to take with us.

But, my biggest surprise was, two of my girls and their husbands were there. Tracy & Vicky (and I hope you know your smiling faces will be posted on this blog)

And...I left with more beer than I brought...sweet.

People know what to give Bigdaddy on his B-day, beer and a tee shirt.

That was great...so thanks to everybody.

Cliffe, Tracy and Griffin
Vicky and Steve
Rob and Peggy Sue
Blondie, Honey and Leah
Mishy and Dale
Tommy
Barb
Kent
Chris

The whole gang...

And to my lovely Julie and Robyn...thank you.

It was great.

What will I do today? I don't know...

I'll think of something.

Enjoy your day!!!

We'll go for Friday...

Well...sorry I didn't post Simply Thursday yesterday, Robyn had a T-ball game that got started late and by the time we got home and ate, it was my bed time.

So...tonight, I fixed Julie some grilled tenderloin and shrimp and garlic bread (for me mostly) to make up for the grilled chicken thighs that turned into chicken nuggets. I had to redeem myself, steak is the only way...

The rub is starting to sell better and better every day, I have more orders coming in. Before long, this bad boy will go full throttle and surpass even my expectations. This stuff is starting to sell itself and I'm telling you it is killer.

One of my girls, (Vicky) has jumped on board and wants to become one of my reps for Big Daddy's Pork Rub. That will work...who in their right mind would turn down my blond babe?

She could sell ice cream to an Eskimo...I'm telling you, she is killer.

That's why she is one of my girls.

And my brunette girls do a fine job too.

Got to go, time for chow.

Enjoy your day!!!
B.D.

P.S. I have to work tomorrow, so the Weekend Report will be posted late.

Wordless Wednesday...

Well... sort of. I am a Libra and this was my Horoscope wisdom for today.

It's no fun going up against someone you can easily beat-unless you're a bully, which you most definitely are not.

So find a worthy, if not daunting, competitor. You do your best work when stiffly challenged.

'nuff said, hit the nail square on the head, there it is.

B.D. what are you talking about?

I'll tell you sometime...Pat Martin will understand what it's saying about me and he would agree, it's a subject we've been talking about for a few weeks.

Weekend Report (partII)

Well...I fixed the thighs last night and they cooked down to chicken nuggets, so I'll have to redeem myself on that one.

I was going to do the pork shoulder today, but I realized this morning I didn't have any wood cut and split, no wood, no smoke, no cook. So much for that...

And... I don't know if I got too hot yesterday or if I'm coming down with something, but I feel like I've had a piano dropped on my head, but it feels more like somebody hit me with the whole house!

(I only had three beers total yesterday, so I know something ain't right.)

Anyway, I'm just going to R & R it today and see how I feel around Beer:30 this afternoon.

And sorry, no pictures of the chicken nuggets from last night.

Weekend Report...

Grilled a few steaks on the Holland last night, along with some large shrimp and some 'shrooms... Mighty fine eatin'.

To be honest, I haven't used the Holland hardly any this summer, I have mostly been using the Weber. So I thought I would show the Holland a little love...

Tonight, I'm doing chicken thighs and Sunday, I'm doing a 10lb. pork shoulder for pulled pork. I've got a few things I want to try on the shoulder.

Anyway...I'm about to go outside and cut the grass and do a little work.

I was going to see the Bar-B-Que contest and check some things out, but I've got to get some things done around here. They already have us up to work next Saturday.

I'll just catch them next year. I'll be back here Sunday to post some pictures of tonight and tomorrow. So...

Enjoy your day!!!

Simply Thursday...

Wonder what genius came up with that idea?
And it's a darn good one at that!

On another note...

"Happy Anniversary" Blondie & Dave.

You made it another year without strangling each other. I knew those rock' em sock' em blow up pianos that you can drop on somebody's head would come in handy in relieving stress.

Yep...nothing works better to relieve stress than dropping a piano on somebody's head and then enjoying a refreshing cold beverage afterwards.

Yep...

Ah...B.D.?

Oh...sorry, I was just envisioning dropping a piano on Blondie's head. My bad...

Anyway, Happy Anniversary you two. And to everybody else...

Enjoy your day!!!

Pictures...

There was one thing I wish I had a picture of is Mike Causey's set up for his home brew.

Yes...you read that right, Home Brew.

And let me be the one to tell you, Mike has got it going on, no doubt about it. This was some awesome stuff...

Everybody that knows me will testify that I am strictly a Bud Light man and Coors Light comes in as a back up, but Mike had this stuff rocking and I was in for the ride. Great job Mike.

I also gave Mike some of the rub to try, so I look forward to his comments on that.

So...

I asked Dave what happened to us, why we sucked wind so much and got our butts handed to us. Simply put...we didn't have all of our ducks in a row.

He's right, and I was not and still ain't happy about that at all...I don't like having my butt handed to me...

I'm still a little tired and work sucked today (an everyday thing it seems like now.)

So I'm due a little R & R...
