Weekend Report...

Built a fire last night...

Didn't really need it because it was warm, but I grilled some thick cut pork chops and thought it would be nice since I got washed out of my shorts last time I had a fire and the Weber going.

Didn't rain this time. I triple checked every weather report I could pull up!

I had forgotten the "Rule of the 6 P's" last time.

Prior
Planning
Prevents
Piss
Poor
Performance

Believe me...that won't happen again.

Now, it might rain and I'm sure that's not the last time I'll get wet, but I won't forget the rules anymore. No Sir...lesson learned on that deal, trust me...

I don't know what's shakin' this weekend...

I do know...that it will be warm today-Woo-Hoo! Windy and rain (thunder storms) sometime between tonight and tomorrow.

It has rained dang near every day I've been off. The first week off, it rained all frigging week! I've had a few nice days, but everything is still soaking wet.

There are some things I would like to get done outside, but it is too muddy.

There's some things I need to do inside, but my shadow never leaves my side (or lets me out of her sight for long) so...that's out. I can't "put" her outside. Why not... you may ask.

Under the deck is a mud hole.

This dog has a routine that will not be detoured by anything or anyone. She HAS to walk the perimeter of the backyard, meaning she starts at one corner of the house following the fence line all the way around the yard coming up on the other corner of the house and going under the deck heading to the point of debarkation where this all began.

Have you ever had a Lab...that doesn't like...to get wet. I have one...

And what happens when a dog with paws as big as a Moose goes four wheeling in the mud? One big mess...

My dog...thinks she's a people and gets rather pissed when she is "put" outside and not let back in as soon as her business is completed. She showed it yesterday...

Mud and all. Ever tried to get mud off a Moose that don't like to get wet???

Working for the weekend...

Well...

Santa has come and gone and he was very good to the girls. (Robyn and Leah)

The "jolly old elf" has retired to his winter home in Florida to let all that milk and cookies settle in. Ever wonder what Santa is REALLY thinking when he comes down the chimney?

Let's take a look...

Not milk and cookies AGAIN!

Why doesn't anybody ever leave me a steak and potato or a hamburger or a grilled cheese sandwich for crying out loud. Milk and cookies...you ask for the moon and I get milk and cookies, you ask for money and I get milk and cookies, you ask for fancy clothes and jewelry and I get milk and cookies...

I put up with reindeer passing gas the WHOLE trip...and I get milk and cookies.

Do you know that I deliver 10 million turtleneck sweaters around the world, 20 million bathrobes, 40 million neck ties and God only knows how many pairs of house shoes, socks, underwear and pajamas. Is it too much to ask for a T-bone steak and a brew?

Well at least think about it. My Dentist bill is getting to be outrageous...

Poor Santa...

Wordless Wednesday...

Well sort of...

We all know things are tough right now and could get a lot worse before they get better. Some of us have been through this a few times...some have not.

Things will get better. You just have to believe...trust me.

From all of us here at MacDaddy's Grill - Big Daddy, Julie, Robyn and our black bear Sweetie, we hope your Christmas is still a moment of happiness and joy for all of you.

Merry Christmas

Simply Tuesday...

Julie and myself, met up last night with Tracy & Vicky, two of my original B.D.'s girls for our annual "Christmas Beer & Cheer Dinner" at Darfon's Restaurant.

We had a blast. It is always fun and a pleasure to see and be with these two lovely ladies. We love them and their whole crew and wish them a safe and happy "Merry Christmas."

The beer was cold, the food was good, and the company was top shelf perfection.

Always look forward to seeing them.

On another note:
Time is running out...

Got to get 'er done...

Weekend Report...part II

I decided yesterday that I would watch a few games on the boob tube, then build a fire outside, drink some (more) beer and grill some chicken.

Good plan...but... things went south in a hurry...

Got the fire built, started the charcoal, got the chicken ready, sat down to enjoy the fire and a cold beer. So far...so good.

Got ready to put the charcoal in the Weber...splat, splat, splat, a few rain drops "ah it's nothing" I said...

Put the chicken on the Weber...it started raining harder. Julie brought me an umbrella but that did little good at all. "Bring the patio umbrella out" (I said) we'll set that bad boy up and be fine. Did that...then we heard thunder.

She checked the radar and said it was coming quick.

Then...things went south...

I told Julie to go inside and I would stay out as long as I could. As she went in there was a flash of light in the sky...I knew what would come next...KA-BOOM!!!

I'll ride that one out, could be the only one. Wrong...

Flash of light...KA-BOOM!!!

Damn...that was close.

It is not a good or wise idea to be standing under an umbrella grilling when the sky is being lit up by mega-volts of something that could charbroil you and the chicken in a nanosecond.

So it was time to head for the backdoor and the oven. I was soaking wet and cussing like a sailor...but all turned out well.

The chicken was great and we had a good laugh.

A tale of legend was born on that night.

Hey, you remember on Dec. 20th when Big Daddy went out to grill some chicken and got washed out of his shorts...

Ha-ha-ha...

Weekend Report...

Global Warming? I'd say, Global Glitch.

It was 70 degrees yesterday as winds from the South fought against the North winds to make my day here in Tennessee very pleasant.

Of course...it was windy.

But who is to fuss about that (down here besides Julie) as the North and Mid-West get freezing rain or snow or both and cold weather up the wazoo. Now of course, we have had our fair share of rain or mist or fog or all three as it has almost been like...living in Washington State for the past 12 days. (They have snow and ice right now). My sister lives up there and it is very rare to see sunshine because of all the mist and rain they get almost (but not quite) year round.

No thanks...I'll stay in Tennessee. We have a saying here, "if you don't like the weather, stick around, it'll change." How true...

70 yesterday...50 something today with rain mixed in there somewhere...Sunday 33 and windy...Monday 30, low 14. Brr...

Robyn is not feeling well, so it's a trip to the Doc to have her checked over today.

This should be fun...

Me...sitting in a waiting room with a bunch of snot nosed crumb crunchers spreading joy and germs...

"Break out the Lysol boys...we're goin' in..."

Weekend Report...

I'm going to attempt to cook some ribs, wings and turkey legs today. Why do I say attempt? The wind is supposed to "lay the pedal to the metal" and come roaring out of the South anywhere from 15 to 35 mph wind gust.

Great...

The temperature will be warm enough, but wind like that, can play hell with your pit temps, but I'll give it a try. Next week, a chance of rain all frigging week...then turn colder than a witch's tooter after that.

Witch's tooter? What is that...?

Dang son...use your noggin, a witch's behind, her butt, her posterior, her junk in her trunk...that tooter.

My neighbor's son wants me to cook some things for him for a graduation party from college next spring. "That's fine brother, (I told him) as long as it ain't winter!"

On another note:

I know I make grammar mistakes and punctuation mistakes. I never said I went to college...nor...am I a major professional writer. Julie will come behind me and clean it up sometimes, but most of you (by now) know what I mean...even when I do make mistakes. They will be corrected if I catch them, if not, Julie will catch them or question what I mean by that.

So not to worry...I'm a Southern Hillbilly that's been out of school for more than 30 years and not real highly educated in the art of writing. But even without a PhD... I don't think I do so terribly bad...for a lowly white boy.

Working for the weekend...

Julie was the chef last night.

What? Are you sick B.D.?

No Jethro, I'm not sick...

She just decided to treat me. And she did very well because she knows I have a lot on my mind...and because...I have not cooked in awhile.

But...that will change as I have plenty of time on my hands because...we are on layoff until the first of January. Long story short...I've had a lot on my mind because of work and just haven't felt like cooking.

That has to change.

Cooking is my therapy. Instead of going to a head doctor for consultations, I consult with the wisdom of the Weber grill or seek the loving kindness of my BBQ pit 'Big Mama'.

My cooking has taken a backseat to the weather and the world...I need to step back...take a breath and focus. My tolerance for worldly bullshit...has reached its limit.

I need therapy...

I need to arise from the ashes of anguish and loathing...I need to strip away the burdens of humanity that has built a house of stone on my heart...I need to live and savor the good fortunes of my soul...I need to re-open my eyes and look upon the beauty that God has laid out before me...

I need...I need to...

I need to grill something...

Weekend Report...

Ouch!

I told you Florida was tough...

Navy beat and shut out (first time for that) Army. This is a game I have watched for years and years and always enjoy. I went to a ROTC Army Military School (back in the day) and my dad was in the Navy (back in the day) so, that's were that comes from.

Julie and Robyn are out of town (be back today) so...I'm kind of bored. It's too frigging cold and windy outside to try and enjoy yourself, or for that matter, do anything. That's why I hate this bullshit...

I like my quiet time outside...but not wrapped up like an Eskimo wondering what the hell am I doing out here.

And beer...will not change that fact one little bit...I'm sorry to say...it just kind of reinforces the little voices in my head saying...

"Hey! You're not a Polar Bear you idiot! What the hell's wrong with you?"

"This is merely a slight setback."...I must remind myself as I curse under my breath at the audacity and cruelty of it all...

If beer doesn't help...

Then surely all is lost...until the Maiden of Spring begins her seductive dance of warmth and fresh air and breaths life once again into this cold hearted patron of despair where my lowly flame, once more, will be ignited into a roaring fire of warmth and hope...

So I say unto you, as in the words of my father...

"Shut the door! This ain't the Bahamas!

Enjoy your day...

Football Weekend...

Oh man...

Should be some great football played this weekend. Florida & Alabama.

Now me...of course...I'm a Tennessee Vols fan, but they went belly up this year, (so much for that) and Vandy should be bowl eligible (good luck to them, I hope they do.)

So who would I root for in this game of Florida and Alabama?

We have friends that are BIG BAMA fans.

One of my original B.D.'s girls (Vicky) and our good buddy Dink (bass player for Mark Wills) they are all BAMA...

Florida is tough...

But I will have to go with...BAMA. (Vicky just shouted)..."You go Big Daddy"

Now, back in the day...I was a big "Bear" fan when he was at Alabama. Always had respect for the man. But after he was gone...well...Tennessee came into play and I went over to the 'dark side.'

Never cared that much for Vandy...in a word...they sucked. But they have a damn good coach now and have earned some respect and may come back and kick some serious butt.

I hope they do...its been a long time for them.

But this game between the Gators and the Tide...

Should be a good one.

It's going to be a beer and hot wings weekend for sure...

Simply Tuesday...

OK...

I did catch some flack from my post below for my quote (or more to the fact) about my saying that my wife had a (depraved and twisted mind) about cold weather.

Silly me...or stupid me...whichever comes first.

The flack came from...(you guessed it)...my wife.

Now...this was not meant as...by any means...disrespect toward my lovely wife. It was meant as a difference of opinion toward cold weather.

She loves it...I hate it.

Difference of opinion, plain and simple.

But, silly me...I did not word this tidbit of information as I should have...being of the male mentally of my gender that so often shoots ourselves in the foot for no reason in particular when it comes to women.

So...

My wife loves cold weather...

I hate it...There's nothing depraved or twisted about that.
