To someone...
I've never used the Grill as a political or formal format to say anything.
But, we have a friend that reads us everyday and she has some things going on in her life that must be addressed here.
So this is for her...without saying any names or revealing her identity.
We are always behind you and beside you always. We are only a phone call away...
You are always in our thoughts. We love you with all our heart and only wish the best for you. You have always been a true friend to us and we will always be a true friend for you.
Sometimes life is not fair...but you are never alone...not as long as we are in your corner.
All of us here love you...
You are very special to us darlin' and we are always here for you, no strings attached. We would rather see you smile than to ever see you cry...

Wordless Wednesday...
You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls. For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

Weekend Report...
Yesterday started out cloudy and cool. But Mr. Sunshine finally came out and graced us with his smiling face.
Fired up Big Momma and cooked up some slab ribs, pork tenderloin, beef short ribs, chicken thighs and country ribs.
I've got enough food to feed an army for a week, but it will be gone in a day or two.
Stuff like that just don't hang around for long...
As Alton Brown would say: Good eats

This & That...
You know...sometimes life just gets in the way.
Someone asked me how come I don't cook as much anymore? Mostly right now because of the rat race called life.
Cooking to me is a pleasure, a source of relaxation and harmony with myself. It slows me down (in a good way) makes me smell the flowers or the smoke, it makes me concentrate on one thing...cooking.
But when life steps in...it becomes a chore.
People depend on me to be the laid back cooking guru that they know and love.
But, the chain of events that have happened last year and this year has put too much noise in my head. I'm way behind on my 'To-Do List' this year because of this or that.
Aggravation from work, peoples demand on my time, the weather, life itself sometimes makes my simple pleasures that relax me...become a chore.
My neighbors son asked me, When are you going to fire up the pit again? It's about time to close it down for the winter.
My response: Depends on the weather and what's going on. I might try to fire her up this weekend. We'll see...
(Which means I doubt it.)
I do have some pecan wood split logs I need to use up, but do I have the time to waste a whole day tending the pit? I mean, I've got a lot of things to do...would this be a pleasure or a chore?
I'll bring over the beer.
Damn...
Oh well, even Superman has his kryptonite...

Weekend Report...
Had a few cold libations yesterday, watched it rain almost all day, watched the race, had a chocolate birthday brownie with chocolate ice cream made by Julie and Robyn, settled in on the couch and went to sleep.
It's cold and windy today, with lows expected in the mid 30's tonight and lower 30's tomorrow night.
Winds NNW at 10 to 20 and then on Tuesday shifting out of the South to warm up to 72 degrees. Figures...
Four days off and the weather sucks. Go back to work and the weather turns nice for a few days.
Whatever...

Happy B-Day...
It's that time of year again when the 'Grill' gives a shout out to another birthday boy...
...me!
Yes...the Grumpy grouchmeister is 52 today.
Thanks to the girls for the gifts and best wishes.
What shall we do today? Probably nothing, seeing as the weather will pretty much suck the next few days. But you never know about me. This old dog still has some life left in 'em.
So thanks to everyone for the best wishes and gifts. And as we always say to that special person on their special day!
"Happy Birthday" to...
...Me!
Enjoy your day!!!

Wordless Wednesday...
Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart.
Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language.
Do not now look for the answers.
They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. It is a question of experiencing everything.
At present you need to live the question.
Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.

Weekend Report...
Julie surprised me yesterday when I asked her what she wanted for dinner. Steak or chicken, either one.
What?
But you have to read in between the lines. Meaning, it's not raining this weekend and you've got two days so you can grill steak one night and chicken the next night.
Women are always thinking ahead...
So that's what happened. Steaks on the Weber last night and chicken on the Weber tonight.
One of the guys at work gave me some real Polish sausage that he said comes from up North, so that will go on the grill as well. If I like it I'll get him to order me some for the smoker.
I took off Thursday & Friday of this coming week (Friday being my B-day) in hopes that I can get some things done outside before the first frost shows up.
Temperatures right now are all over the place with jet streams and moisture and this and that happening. I'm not to far behind on my list but I am behind more than I would like. So we'll play catch up and get it done before winter gets here.
That's why I burned my last two vacation days of this year to get work caught up.
Speaking of work...
It's time to go fire up the motorized billy goat and feed that bad boy one more time.

Weekend Report...
I may have spoken too soon about a rain free weekend...
Where the heck did this come from?
I like NOAA, they update their forecast every hour, but it was them that said this weekend would be sunny, windy, and cool. But the news last night said the weather will change with rain moving in on Sunday and I'm like...What?
Sure enough...get up this morning, pull up NOAA and there she is...Sister Rain. It's 20 percent today, 50 percent tonight. Now you may be saying 20 percent ain't diddly. Not true in these here neck of the woods. I've seen the bottom fall out at 20 percent and I've seen 50 percent rain hit a wall of dry air and vanish into thin air.
We may get a down pour or a just enough to mess everything up. Depends on which way it's heading (looks like West to East) and if it stays to the south or comes further north.
At least I got the grass cut yesterday...I'll try to get the hedge done today.
We'll see...
...Oh, before I forget, my girl Tracy made some banana nut bread and brought some slices for me to try and give my humble opinion on the outcome.
It was very good my dear, thank you. I haven't had banana nut bread in a long time.
Everybody knows I love chocolate of any kind, form or fashion, pecan pie, carrot cake and so on...nobody knew I liked banana nut bread.
Well hey...I can't tell all of my secrets you know. Where would the mystery and intrigue of this lowly ol' country boy be if everybody knew everything?
That's no fun...

This & That...
Finally a weekend with no rain, no ball game, and no bullshit to interfere with my plans for world domination... AAAAhahahahahahahaaa!
Seriously...I've got things to get done outside before Old Man Winter gets here.
I get ahead
I get behind
I get ahead
I get behind
It's a never ending cycle of playing catch up with Mother Nature. The nights are getting cooler faster that I thought they would, so grass cutting should come to an end in a week or two.
I've got to cut grass today and get that over with and move on to other things. A few shrubs still need trimming, some things need to be cut back, some loose ends here and there...just stuff that needs to be done.
I could pay somebody to do all this work and just sit on my duff and partake in cold libations. But no...
I'd rather take care of my stuff myself. Just like other things I'd rather do myself, I think it gets done better.
In some things, I'm a perfectionist
In some things, I'm a pessimist
In some things, I'm a hard headed butt wipe
In all things, I'm just me
I've got work to do...
