Recipes & Such

Here are a few good looking recipes for you to add to your collection. It ain't barbecue, but it's the next best thing for indoor cooking.

Barbecue Pork and Bean Bake
(Barbara Wheeler's 2005 Michigan State Fair Blue Ribbon Recipe)

5 strips bacon
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 lb. pork tenderloin, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 can (15 oz.) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 oz.) butter beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 oz.) pork and beans, un-drained
3/4 cup KC Masterpiece, hickory brown sugar barbecue sauce
2 Tbs. molasses
2 tsp. Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

In a large pan, cook bacon until crispy and crumble. Sauté pork tenderloin and onion in bacon fat until meat is browned on all sides and onions are tender. Add remaining ingredients as listed in order. Mix well and pour into an (8 inch) square baking dish. Bake at 350° for one hour.(Serves 4-6)


Slow Cooker Short Ribs

6-8 racks of short ribs
2-3 Tbs. brown sugar
1 bottle of barbecue sauce

Mix the sauce and sugar together in a sauce pan and simmer. Brown ribs in a skillet. Dip the short ribs into the sauce and place them in the slow cooker. Pour the remaining sauce over the ribs and cook on low about 8 hours.
